Bio
Justin Hoyt was named Director of Athletics in 2016 after serving more than five years as Assistant Director of Athletics and Sports Information Director. He currently oversees 20 NJCAA athletic programs and more than 350 student-athletes. His responsibilities include managing the department’s annual budget and supervising all coaches, staff, and operational facets of the athletic program.
During Hoyt’s tenure as Director of Athletics, Viking student-athletes have achieved record levels of success both academically and athletically. Under his leadership, the College’s programs have captured 34 Mountain Valley Conference championships, 20 Region III titles, and multiple individual regional and national championships. A record number of student-athletes have also earned national and regional academic honors.
Hoyt was named NJCAA Region 3 Athletic Director of the Year in both 2022–23 and 2019–20. During the 2019–20 academic year, he implemented the Student Senate and Athletic Retention Program (SSARP) and led a comprehensive departmental rebrand.
The athletics department has since celebrated several historic milestones, including the College’s first NJCAA Lea Plarski Major Award winner, an NJCAA Academic Team of the Year Award, and a program-best third-place finish in the 2024–25 NATYCAA Cup final standings. In addition, the Vikings have earned the Region III Community Service Award each year during his tenure. Hoyt also guided the addition of Esports, men’s and women’s track and field, and men’s and women’s golf to the department’s sport offerings.
Hoyt currently serves as President of the Mountain Valley Collegiate Conference and chairs the conference’s men’s and women’s track and field and women’s tennis committees. Within NJCAA Region III, he is the Assistant Women’s Regional Director, Regional Chair for Football and Track & Field, and serves on the Executive Committee, Academic All-Region Committee, Standards and Ethics Committee, and Professional Development Committee. Nationally, he chairs the NJCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Committee and serves on the NJCAA Tennis Committee.
As Assistant Director of Athletics, Hoyt managed sports information, media relations, statistical operations, and marketing for all NJCAA programs. He coordinated athletic facility rentals, internal scheduling, and daily operations. During that time, he launched the department’s first comprehensive website redesign, established a strong social media presence, and introduced a live-streaming platform. He also created Athletics Instant Admission Days for incoming student-athletes and assisted with planning and development of the College’s $4.5 million Outdoor Athletic Complex.
Before joining Hudson Valley Community College, Hoyt worked at D’Youville College, assisting with sports information and event supervision. He also gained NCAA Division I experience in game management, marketing, and promotions at Clemson University. Outside of intercollegiate athletics, Hoyt has held roles with the Buffalo Bills (NFL), Batavia Muckdogs (MiLB), and the Sports Consulting Group.
Hoyt earned his bachelor’s degree in Sport Management with a minor in Business from Clemson University, and a master’s degree in Sport Administration from Canisius University. He was inducted into his high school Hall of Fame in 2024.
