Women's Tennis Placed 5th at Nationals'; Legnard Named All-American

The Hudson Valley Community College women's tennis team placed fifth overall at the NJCAA Women's Tennis National Championships, which concluded on Sunday afternoon in Chattanooga, TN.
Keely Legnard earned her way into the No. 1 singles flight national title match after winning her semifinal round in straight sets on Saturday. Legnard went up against a national-power in Lily Liu, the No. 1 overall seed from Oxford-Emory. In the match, Legnard was defeated 6-0,6-0, marking the first time this season in which she was defeated in No. 1 singles. She completed a historic season at No. 1 singles with an overall record of 9-1.
In the championship backdraw, Mia Manera earned a win at No. 2 singles, defeating Dupage's Alexandra Russell in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Aubrie Murphy also closed out her HVCC career with a win in the No. 3 singles match, defeated Dupage's Hannah Maser, 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 4 singles, Zara Cole dropped a hard-fought three-set match, 2-6, 6-1, 10-7. She was defeated by Ocean County's Hayley O'Neil. In the final backdraw match, Olliver Bulmer was defeated 6-1, 6-0 by Ocean's Erika Breitenbach.
In the doubles backdraw portion, Keely Legnard and Mia Manera defeated Dupage's Natalia Klus and Alexandra Russell 8-2 at the No. 1 doubles flight. At No. 3 doubles, Olliver Bulmer and Sidney Phillips earned an 8-1 win over Ocean's Erika Breitenback and Kylie VanNote.
