The Hudson Valley Community College men's bowling team finished first at the Region III Championships in Utica on this afternoon.
The Vikings were down by more than 400 pins after three games, but fought their way back and won by more than 350 pins. They shot a total of 9,519. Ryan Sickler (Guilderland/Guilderland) won the Singles title with a 959 series and Michael Hartmann (Coxsackie-Athens/Coxsackie) finished second with a 908 total. Both Sickler and Hartmann earned All-Region honors, and Sickler also was named the MVP of the Regional Championships. Victoria Jansen (Kingston/Kingston) earned All-Region honors, finishing second on the women's side with a 1,552 total. She also teamed up with Candace Dawson (Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk/Ravena) in Doubles to finish second with a 1,399 total.
The bowling team heads to the National Junior College Championships on Thursday, March 1 in Buffalo.
