The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's bowling teams came in first place in their respective events on Sunday, Jan. 17, at the Hawk Invitational in Utica. The men and women both defeated their top NJCAA rival, Erie Community College, by 300 and 400 pins, respectively.
In men's singles, Brandon Davis (Bishop Maginn, New York) won first prize with a score of 961. Alex Weglarz (Hoosic Valley, Schaghticoke) came in with a third place finish and a 902 score.
In doubles action, Dan DeRizzo (Guilderland, Altamont) and Davis came in with a score of 1,743, which was good enough for first place. Hudson Valley's Will Coons (Guilderland, Guilderland) and Tom Egan (Mohonasen, Schenectady) teamed up to take second with a score of 1,710. In women's doubles, Devan Hodlik (Watervliet, Watervliet) and Nicole Sheldon (Columbia, East Greenbush) came in second with a score of 1,756.
Davis swept all-events and came in first overall for the tournament. Alicia Brisson (Lansingburgh, Speigletown) finished second in all-events on the women's side. Also honored were Weglarz, who came in third, and DeRizzo and Rebecca Duncan (Clayton A. Bouton, Voorheesville) who came in fifth and sixth, respectively.
Both squads will next roll on Wednesday, Jan. 20, when they will compete in a conference matchup against Columbia-Greene.
