The Hudson Valley Community College women's bowling team finished tied for ninth out of 16 competing teams at the United States Bowling Congress National Team Tournament over the weekend in Wichita, Kansas.
After qualifying 16th, Hudson Valley was matched up with top-seeded Fresno State University in the opening round. Hudson Valley took the first two games of the best-of-seven competition, 202-162 and 188-182. The Bulldogs won the next two games, 223-149 and 194-177, to tie the competition. After the two teams split the next two rounds, Hudson Valley pulled the upset with a 183-171 win in the seventh game.
Hudson Valley suffered a 4-3 loss to eventual runner-up McKendree College in the second round and was then eliminated with a 4-1 loss to Pikeville College in the third round.
This year's Hudson Valley roster, which boasts a 3.21 cumulative grade point average, consists of sophomores Kristina Jenkins (East Greenbush/Columbia High School), Kristen Koenig (Wynantskill/Catholic Central High School), Madison Spickler (Watervliet/Watervliet High School) and Tia-Marie Stevens (Sand Lake/Averill Park High School), and freshmen Kelly Borden (Troy/Lansingburgh High School), Jamie LaBoissiere (Cohoes/Cohoes High School), Leighann Libertucci (Albany/Colonie High School) and Jayme Nieckarz (Albany/Colonie High School).
