The Hudson Valley Community College women's and men's bowling teams each brought home top three finishes at the NJCAA Bowling Championships in Buffalo. The women finished second out of eight teams with 11,938 pins. Hudson Valley's men finished third out of 16 teams with 12,778 pins.
Sophomore Kristina Jenkins (East Greenbush/Columbia High School) received the Kerm Helmer Award as the women's individual all-around champion. She finished with 2,216 pins (184.7 average). Sophomore Tia-Marie Stevens (Sand Lake/Averill Park High School) was sixth with 2,091 pins (174.3 average).
Hudson Valley's women took the top three spots in the doubles competition. The duo of Jayme Nieckarz (Albany/Colonie High School) and Kelly Borden (Troy/Lansingburgh High School) won the doubles with a combined score of 1,106. They were followed by teammates Jamie LaBoissiere (Cohoes/Cohoes High School) and Leighann Libertuci (Albany/Colonie High School) with a score of 1,094. Rounding out the Lady Vikings triple threat was Jenkins and Stevens who shot 1,092.
Freshman Dan Rowe (East Greenbush/Columbia High School) was Hudson Valley's top individual men's performer. He finished ninth in the all-events standings with 2,318 pins (193.2 average). Freshman Ryan Chestnut (Latham/Shaker High School) rolled the highest individual game in the tournament. He rolled a 267 in the second game of the singles competition.
Mohawk Valley Community College won the women's competition with 12,009 pins and Erie Community College won the men's competition with 13,627 pins.
