Holly Churchill (Schenectady/Schenectady High School), who recently completed her sophomore season on the Hudson Valley Community College women's bowling team, has signed a National Letter of Intent to bowl and attend school at Arkansas State University.
Churchill had a 196 average for Hudson Valley during the 2004-05 season, and helped the Lady Vikings to a second place finish at the 2005 National Junior College Athletic Association championship tournament.
This is the third consecutive year a Hudson Valley bowler has earned a bowling scholarship to a NCAA Division I university. Churchill will join former Hudson Valley teammate, Katie Duncan, who received a scholarship in 2004 to attend Arkansas State. Erin Fagan signed with the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore in 2003, and has competed in the last two NCAA championship tournaments with the Lady Hawks.
Churchill, who is expected to earn an associate degree in Individual Studies this May, will study Marketing at Arkansas State.
Arkansas State, located in Jonesboro, is one of 46 NCAA colleges to offer women's bowling as a varsity sport. The Indians were ranked ninth in the final 2004-05 National Tenpin Coaches Association poll.
