The Hudson Valley Community College men's lacrosse program (4-6) earned a tough team win 12-8 over a competitive Tompkins Cortland program on Friday evening in Dryden, NY.

The Vikings had a balanced offensive attack going for them in the key NJCAA Region 3 win as they scored three goals in each of the four quarters and limited the Panthers to only one goal in the first and final quarter of the game to secure the win.

Tompkins Cortland jumped out early, scoring within the first two minutes of the game, but the Vikings responded, scoring three goals in the final 4:30 of the quarter to take a3-1 lead into the second quarter. Hudson Valley continued to extend their lead in the second as they went on to outscore the Panthers 3-2 in the quarter. Willis Bickford scored two of the Vikings three goals in the quarter.

Coming out of the halftime break, the Panthers made a run, scoring the first three goals of the half and tied the game up at 6-6. Cue Jack Alvey, who took over the next couple of minutes, scoring the next two goals for Hudson Valley and built in a two-goal lead as they entered the final frame. Matthew Calicchia scored his second goal of the game with 1:27 remaining in the third, giving the Vikings a 9-7 advantage.

In the fourth, Tompkins pulled within one goal again, but Hudson Valley continued to respond, scoring the next three goals, pulling away for good and landed the 12-8 win. Calicchia, Jacob Ring and Bickford tallied goals for Hudson Valley in the fourth quarter.
