The Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball program had its top duo named to the All-Region 3 teams, led by sophomore Trevor Green (Troy/Lansingburgh), who was named to the NJCAA Region 3 First Team following a career year, as announced by the NJCAA Region 3 Basketball Committee.
Green just completed his second season with the Vikings, averaged 21.7 points per game, reached new career heights as he became the 5th member of the men's basketball program to score 1,000 career points in two-seasons at the Valley. Green accomplished the career feat in Saturday's Region 3 semifinal defeat to top-seeded Mohawk Valley by scoring a game-high 23 points and was named to the NJCAA Region 3 All-Tournament Team, as announced by the Tournament Committee late Sunday evening. Green's 21.7 points per game ranks seventh in the nation and third among Region 3.
Green played in 49 games during the last two seasons for Hudson Valley and finished with 1,004 career points, which places him fourth on the all-time scoring list. He sits behind HVCC Athletics Hall of Famers Ducey Hughes and Justin Gallo. Trevor has etched his name in Hudson Valley's men's basketball record books as he was more than a prolific scorer. Green was also a major defensive presence as he finished his career with 112 steals, which is fifth all-time in program history. He also sits eighth overall on the career rebounds list with 410 rebounds. Trevor was a great facilitator too as a primary ball-handler and collected 195 career assists, which places him eighth among the program's all-time assist leaders.
Jourdan Belcher (Elmsford / Alexander Hamilton) was named to the NJCAA Region-3 Second Team, as voted on by the Coaches and just missed landing on the first-team ballot. Belcher is one of the most improved players in Region 3 from a season ago. He nearly doubled his scoring production and shot a team-best 57 percent from the floor. Belcher's career field goal percentage is 53.4 percent, which places him fourth on the Vikings all-time list. Jourdan finished with 695 career points as he surpassed the 20-point plateau nine times this season, including a career-high 38 points and 18 rebounds in the Vikings 93-81 road win over Onondaga on Feb. 5.
The duo of Green and Belcher helped the Vikings to a 5-2 regular season record over NJCAA top-15 programs, which included a season sweep of Region 3 rival Herkimer. Belcher played some of his best basketball of the season against the nation's top programs. In the seven games against ranked opponents, Belcher averaged 20.4 points per game and 7.5 rebounds. Green also performed his best against top programs, averaging 17.4 points per game over the seven-game span.
