Cross Country Competes at NJCAA Nationals

The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's cross country teams competed in the 2022 NJCAA Men's and Women's National Championships hosted by Holyoke Community College in Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass. on Saturday.

Harper (IL) wins its fourth Women's Cross Country National title by winning the 2022 NJCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championship. The Hawks' finished the event with a team total of 52 points, just one point ahead of runner-up Mineral Area (MO). Defending Champion Oxford Emory (GA) rounds out the top three with a third-place finish and 55 team points. Joliet (IL) and DuPage (IL) finished fourth and fifth respectively.

For the Vikings, Olivia Skystad earned the team's best finish as she crossed the finish line in 24th place with a time of 21:07. Eva Sgambettera placed 43rd overall and posted a time of 22:19. Rounding out the women's scores were Laurel Ticer (50th – 23:35), Jessica Wank (64th – 24:53) and Rebecca Seiter (67th – 25:16).

DuPage (IL) wins the 2022 NJCAA DIII Men's Cross Country National Championship by scoring 42 team points and was led by individual race winner Nicholas Keeling. The freshman defeated the rest of the field by over 1 minute in race time.

For the Vikings, Eric Zumpe paced the men's team with a 27th place finish. Zumpe tallied a time of 28:36. Jake Kinnicutt placed 56th overall with a time of 30:10 and Adam Blough crossed the line in 66th place overall with a time of 30:33.

Rounding out the men's scoring was Justin Layer, who placed 71st with a time of 30:47 and William Petramale at 120th and 33:55. Cody Tyler (130th – 35:08), Ian Shaw (132nd – 35:21), Caden Jarvais (143rd – 38:00) and Aidan Alaxanian (155th – 46:14) also competed in the national championship event.
