Women's Cross Country Wins Regional Championship; Men Runners-Up

The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's cross country programs continued their championship season after the women earned their second straight NJCAA Region 3 championship and the men's program finished runners-up at Finger Lakes Community College on Saturday morning in Canandaigua, NY.

The women's team had all five runners placed inside the top-15 and were led by Eva Sgambettera, who posted an official time of 24:22 in the 5K race and placed seventh overall. Laurel Ticer finished ninth overall and crossed the finish line with a time of 26;03. Jessica Wank was not too far behind as she earned 11th overall and added to the team scoring with a time of 27:04.3. Rounding out the scoring for the women's team are Rebecca Seiter and Ellicia Swedish, who finished 13th and 14threspectively. Seiter's official time was 27:59.9 and Swedish's time was 28:57.6. 

On the men's side, they earned a second place finish among seven total participating teams in the 8K championship race. The Vikings were led by Eric Zumpe, who placed fifth overall and tallied a time of 28:56.2. Justin Layer also earned an All-Region honor with a 10th place finish. Layer posted an official time of 30:01.0. Up next for the Vikings was Adam Blough, who finished 13th overall and came in with a time of 30:26.4.Jake Kinnicutt crossed in 16th place (30:33.9) and William Petramale closed out the scoring for the men's team with a 29th place finish and a time of 32:46 to secure the runners-up title. 

Rounding out the remaining men's runners are Jordon Wagner (34th – 34:36.2), Ian Shaw (35th – 34:38.8), Cody Tyler (40th – 36:24), Caden Jarvais (42nd – 36:47.0) and Adian Alaxanian (56th – 47:06.4).

The cross country programs will now prepare for the NJCAA National Championships, which will be hosted by Holyoke Community College on Saturday, Nov. 5.
