Skylstad, Ticer and Sgambettera Medal at Cobleskill

COBLESKILL, NY – The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's cross country program competed in the Steven A. Warde Invitational at SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday morning in Cobleskill, NY. The Vikings had four individuals earn medals for their top performances in their respective races. 

The women's team kicked off the event with the running of the 6,000-meter course and the Vikings top runner was Olivia Skylstad, who placed fifth overall with an official time of 27:26. The women's team placed second overall and finished just behind the Cobleskill Alumni team. The women defeated all active collegiate programs. Newcomer, Laurel Ticer earned a top-12 finish and medaled as she crossed in 12th place with a time of 30:08. Eva Sgambettera also medaled for the Vikings with a top-20 finish. Eva posted an official time of 31:36.

Jessica Wank and Hickory Whelan round out the scoring for the women's program as they both crossed the finish line inside the top-25. Wank finished 21st and had a time of 32:22 and Whelan finished 25th with a time of 33:06. 

Rounding our the rest of the runners for the women are Ellicia Swedish (28th – 34:25) and Rebecca Seiter (30th – 35:07).

The men's program concluded the event with the running of the 8,000-meter course with Hudson Valley's top runner, Eric Zumpe, medaling after he finished  10th overall with a final time of 29:34. 

Jake Kinnicutt just missed the top-20 as he crossed the finish line in 22nd place with a time of 31:24. Justin Layer placed 26th with a time of 32:11 and Adam Blough placed 26th, just outside the top-25 and posted an official time of 32:50. William Petramale rounds out the Vikings scoring team with a 40th place finish and a final time of 34:43.

Rounding out the remaining men's runners are Jordon Wagner (45th – 35:31), Ian Shaw (49th – 36:34), Caden Jarvis (62nd – 40:03), Edgar Alamo-Benitez (47:38) and Aidan Alaxanian (81st – 50:10).

The cross country programs will take a week off before they return to action on Saturday, Sept. 24 when they travel to participate in the Fred Pavlich Invitational at 10 a.m., hosted by Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.
