Cross Country Earns Six Top-20 Medals at Warde Invitational

CROSS COUNTRY EARNS SIX TOP-20 MEDALS AT WARDE INVITATIONAL

COBLESKILL, NY – The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's cross country program continue to improve upon last week's season-opening meet as they earned six top-20 medals at the SUNY Cobleskill Steven A. Warde Invitational on Saturday morning in Cobleskill, NY. 

The women's team started the day off with the running of the 6,000-meter course. The Vikings top runner was Olivia Skylstad, who finished 11th overall with an official time of 29:44. Jessica Wank finished right behind Skylstad in 12th place and posted an official time of 30:02.  

Rounding out the women's team scores for the 5th place Vikings were Eva Sgambettera (24th  – 33:06), Ellicia Swedish (34th – 34:06) and Elizabeth Erno (37th – 41:32). 

The men's program concluded the event with the running of the five-mile course. Hudson Valley had four runners place inside the top-20 and were led by top runner, Shazim Permaul, who placed 5th overall, one spot ahead of Hudson Valley's former cross country student-athlete and NJCAA All-American, Jared Craw (Cobleskill), with a final time of 26:09. Trevor Dzikowicz also placed inside the top-20 for the second consecutive week with an official time of 30:37.

Eric Zumpe and Garrick Smith-Growick roudns out the Vikings top-20 finishers. Zumpe improved upon a 30th place finish last week and crossed the finish line at Cobleskill in 16th place with a time of 31:11. Smith-Growick also jumped a dozen spots with a 20th place finish, crossing the line at 31:40. 

Rounding out the men's results are Jakob Quail (30th – 34:26), Benjamin Bulan (42nd – 36:52), Dermot O'Connor (51st – 41:27) and Martin Benoit (54th – 42:05)

The cross country programs are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 18 as they travel to compete in the Fred Pavlich Invitational at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY. The men will start with an 8K course at 11 a.m., followed by the women's 6K race scheduled to start at noon.
