Cross Country Competes at SUNY Poly Short Course Invitational

UTICA, NY – The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's cross country program competed in the SUNY Poly Short Course Invitational on Saturday morning in Utica, NY. The meet marks the first time the program has competed since prior to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Fall of 2019.

The women's team kicked off the event with the running of the 4,000-meter course at 10 a.m. The Vikings top runner was Olivia Skylstad, who placed 32^nd overall with an official time of 21:00. Jessica Wank also finished inside the top-40 as she posted a final time of 22:17.

Rounding out the women's team scores for the 5^th place Vikings were Eva Sgambettera (38^th – 23:38), Ellicia Swedish (50^th – 25:58) and Elizabeth Erno (54^th – 31:02).

The men's program concluded the event with the running of the 6,000-meter course at 11 a.m. Hudson Valley's top runner was Shazim Permaul, who placed 9^th overall with a final time of 20:31. Trevor Dzikowicz placed inside the top-20 with an official time of 21:47.

Rounding out the team score for the fourth place Vikings were Eric Zumpe (30^th – 22:42), Jakob Quail (31^st – 23:21) and Garrick Smith-Growick (32^nd – 23:25).

The cross country programs are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 11 as they travel to compete in the SUNY Cobleskill Steven A. Warde Invitational in Cobleskill, NY. The women will compete on the 6K course, while the men are competing in a 5 mile course.
