Men's and Women's Cross Country Claims Region 3 Titles

The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's cross-country teams dominated the field at the NJCAA Region 3 Championships on Saturday morning as both teams claimed the Region 3 Championships in their respective division. 

The women's team had all five scoring runners cross the finish line inside the top-8 positions for the second consecutive week as they claimed the Region 3 title. Mercedes Planavsky (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa), led the way for the Vikings as she won the meet with a final time of 21:13.2. Sarah Rosenberger (Home School/Saratoga Springs) crossed the line in fourth place with a time of 23:00.0 and Leigha Gaschel (Cairo/Cairo-Durham) finished sixth overall with a final time of 24:00.5.

Anna Clarke (Bethlehem/Bethlehem) and Ashley Martinez (Red Hook/Red Hook) rounds out the final scoring for the women's team. Clarke placed seventh overall with a time of 24:24.8 and Martinez finished eighth with a time of24:40.9. Hanna White finished 16thoverall with a final time of 26:45.6.

The men's team placed first overall and claimed the NJCAA Region 3 title and were led Jared Craw (Colonie/Colonie). Craw won the race as he crossed the finish line with an official time of 30:38.4. Holden Maynard (Rotterdam/Mohonasen) placed seventh with a time of 32:32.9.

James Blaauboer (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) crossed the line next in eighth place and recorded a final time of32:39.4. Joseph Degiorgioplaced 15thoverall and recorded a final time of 34:01.5. Steven Lindsay (Rotterdam/Clayton A. Bouton) finished 17th and had a time of 34:03.6 and Ryan Moon (Colonie/Colonie) finished right behind Lindsay in 18thplace with a time of 34:06.9.

The cross-country program is back in action on Saturday, November 3 as they travel to Westfield, Mass. for the NJCAA Championships, hosted by Holyoke.
