Cross Country has Strong Performance at SUNY Poly Invitational

The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's cross-country season got off to a strong start on Saturday morning as both teams participated in the SUNY Poly Invitational. 

The women's team placed fifth overall with a final combined time of 1:42.14, six minutes off the lead pace. Out of 72 total runners, the Vikings had three individuals finish inside the top-30 overall. Led by Mercedes Planavsky (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa), who finished 15thwith a final time of 18:08 in the 4K race.

Sarah Rosenberger (Home School/Saratoga Springs) crossed the line in 25thplace and posted a time of 19:15, while Leigha Gaschel (Cairo/Cairo-Durham) finished in 29thplace with a time of 19:37.

Anna Clarke (Bethlehem/Bethlehem) and Hannah White (Valatie/Ichabod Crane) rounds out the women's team with Clarke finishing 31stoverall with a time of 20:56 and White placed 42ndoverall with a time of 24:18. 

The Vikings men's cross-country team placed third overall with a final combined time of 1:49:30 in the 6K race, just over two minutes off the lead pace. Out of 110 total runners, the Vikings placed seven runners inside the top-40. Jared Craw (Colonie/Colonie) set the pace for the men's team as he finished 14thoverall with a time of 20:20. 

Returners Holden Maynard (Rotterdam/Mohonasen) and Ryan Moon (Colonie/Colonie) followed Craw through the finish line in 20thand 22ndplace, respectively. Maynard finished the race with a final time of 21:42 and Moon crossed the line at 21:57. Shaun Buerker (Guilderland/Guilderland) and Steven Lindsay (Rotterdam/Clayton A. Bouton) rounds out the Vikings scoring with a 27thand 28thplace finish, respectively. Buerker finished with a time of 22:45 and Lindsay had a final time of 22:46. 

The cross-country program is back in action on Saturday, September 8 when they travel to participate in the SUNY Cobleskill Invitational at 11 a.m.
