Cross Country Competes at NJCAA Championships

Hudson Valley Community College cross country concluded the 2017 season today after competing in the NJCAA Nationals meet hosted by Holyoke Community College at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass.

The women's program had two individuals compete in Saturday's championship meet as Sarah Rosenberger (Saratoga Springs/Home School) placed 38th overall with a final time of 21:44 with an average 1K time of 4:21.3. Mercedes Planavsky (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) also competed and finished 54th overall with a final time of 22:30.0 for an average 1K time of 4:30.

The men's program finished 24th out of the 29th participating teams as Holden Maynard (Rotterdam/Mohonasen) placed 64th overall with an official time of 29:14. Anton Conto (Glenville/Niskayuna) was the second Vikings finisher and crossed the line in 29:50 for 80th place.

Jeremy Marcy (Menands/Shaker) crossed the line with a final time of 31:20, Parker Swierzewski (Valatie/LaSalle) finished with a time of 26:36 and Nathanael Savasta (Coxsackie/Coxsackie-Athens) placed with a time of 40:55 for the Vikings.

For the seventh consecutive season, Harper (IL) captured the DIII men's cross country title as they finished the meet with 84 points to edge second-place Suffolk County (NY) who totaled 100 points. Onondaga's freshman runner Abshir Yerrow captured the individual title, running the 8K course in a time of 26:24.8.

Harper (IL) also captured the DIII women's cross country championship for the second straight year after posted a low score of 24, just two points off of Herkimer College's record 22 set in 2010. Herkimer's Chyanna Bernier won the individual championship after winning with a time of 18:43.7.
