Hudson Valley Community College women's volleyball student-athletes Gabriella Kholstinin and Abbigail Newell have been named to the NJCAA Region 3 All-Region teams for the 2024 season, as voted on by Region 3 coaches.
Kholstinin, who was also recently named to the All-Conference First Team, is the first women's volleyball player at the college to surpass 500 assists in a single season, setting a new single-season record with 549 assists. She surpassed the 30-assist threshold eight times, including a career high of 44 assists in the Vikings' marathon five-set match against Adirondack on October 8. Gabriella is also an offensive threat, finishing with 52 kills on 260 attack attempts and recording 29 service aces across 83 sets played this year. Defensively, Kholstinin tallied 246 digs, the third highest on the team.
Newell recently completed a successful two-year career, establishing herself as one of the program's best outside hitters of all time. During her sophomore season, Newell achieved a career high of 199 kills and surpassed Alayna Fredenburg to secure second place on the program's career kills list with 356 kills. She has recorded 63 service aces, placing her just outside the top 10 list. Over her two years, Abby proved to be a strong defender as well, ranking third on the all-time digs list with 628 career digs.
