The Hudson Valley Community College volleyball team closed out its regular season play with its final home pod as they welcomed Adirondack and Onondaga to the McDonough Sports Complex on Saturday morning on the campus of HVCC.
GAME ONE: ADIRONDACK 3, HUDSON VALLEY 0 (27-25,25-10, 25-13)
The first game of the day ended in a 3-0 defeat to Adirondack, who is in line to secure the number three seed in the 2024 Region 3 championships in a couple of weeks. Abbigail Newell led the team with 8 kills on 27 attack attempts and added nine digs over the three-set match.
Gabriella Kholstinin accumulated 15 assists and added one kill on five attack attempts and Emily Coffey closed out the day with a team-best 12 digs.
GAME TWO: HUDSON VALLEY 3, ONONDAGA 1 (25-19, 25-16, 24-26, 25-13)
In the final game of the day, the Vikings played much better against Onondaga and completed the four-set win. Jordyn Peacock and Abbigail Newell each recorded 11 or more kills. Peacock finished with a team-best 16 kills on 31 attack attempts and Newell tallied 11 kills on 35 attacks. Emma Burr also hit the ball well as she finished with seven kills on 24 attempts.
Gabriella Kholstinin had the offense moving as she recorded 39 assists and added seven digs, one kill and one service ace.
Defensively, the Vikings were led by Newell, who grabbed a team-best 16 digs with 22 service receptions. Emily Coffey finished with 14 digs and added two kills on three attempts.
UP NEXT:
The team will travel to take on SUNY Dutchess on Tuesday, October 22 at 7 p.m. before returning to play Adirondack in the opening round of the Mountain Valley Conference championships on Saturday, Oct. 26th at Fulton-Montgomery.
