Volleyball Goes 2-0 in Home Opener

The Hudson Valley Community College volleyball team went 2-0 in their home opener against SUNY Niagara and Erie.
GAME ONE: SUNY NIAGARA 1, HUDSON VALLEY 3 (25-23, 16-25, 21-25, 22-25)
The Viking's first game of the day ended in a 3-1 win over SUNY Niagara. Payton Benjamin led the team with 13 kills and 3 digs, playing in all 4 sets. Jordyn Peacock also added 8 kills, 5 blocks and 1 ace to the scoresheet.
Gabriella Kholstinin accumulated 24 assists in the four-set win and served 3 aces. Abbigail Newell added 16 digs, 5 kills and only 1 serve receive error in 26 attempts for a well-rounded match.
GAME TWO: HUDSON VALLEY 3, ERIE COMMUNITY COLLEGE 2 (16-25, 25-18, 25-20, 16-25, 15-8)
The second game of the day featured a well fought matchup with Erie. The Vikings missed a chance to steal a set in the first set, which ultimately went to the Katz. Following the first set the Vikings battled in the second two sets, to win 2 back-to-back. They went down in the 4th but rallied in the 5th set to take the Katz 15-8.
As a team, Hudson Valley accumulated 33 kills, 27 assists and 31 digs against a strong fight from the Katz. Leading the Vikings attack was Jordyn Peacock, who finished with 13 kills and 2 digs. Abbigail Newell and Payton Benjamin each added 7 kills to the score sheet.
The team travels to Fulton-Montgomery Community College on Tuesday, September 17th. The match is set to start at 7 p.m.
