The Hudson Valley Community College volleyball team started off their season earning a 1-1 split on the road at SUNY Adirondack.
GAME ONE: HUDSON VALLEY 3, MONROE COMMUNITY COLLEGE 1 (25-22, 16-25, 25-23, 25-23)
The opening game of the Viking's 2024 season ended in a 3-1 win over MCC. Jordyn Peacock led the team with 14 kills and 2 blocks, playing in all 4 sets. Payton Benjamin also added 11 kills to the scoresheet.
Gabriella Kholstinin accumulated 26 assists in the four-set win and hit the ball well with 5 kills on 11 attack attempts and tallied a pair of service aces. Abbigail Newell added 12 digs, 9 kills and only 2 serve receive errors in 14 attempts for a well-rounded match.
GAME TWO: FINGER LAKES COMMUNITY COLLEGE 3, HUDSON VALLEY 0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-8)
The second game of the day featured a tough matchup with Finger Lakes. The Vikings narrowly missed a chance to steal a set in the first set, which ultimately went to the Lakers. Following the battle in the first two sets, the short-handed Vikings ran out of gas with FLCC taking the final set 25-8.
As a team, Hudson Valley accumulated 16 kills, 7 assists and 29 digs against a strong attack from the Lakers. Leading the Vikings attack was Abbigail Newell, who finished with 5 kills and 5 digs with 4 serve receive errors in 15 attempts. Jordyn Peacock added 3 kills on 11 attempts.
The team travels to Herkimer College on Tuesday, September 10th to face the Generals. The match is set to start at 6 p.m.
