The Hudson Valley Community College women's volleyball team got back to their winning ways and have now won six of their last seven matches after defeating SUNY Orange in straight sets (25-17, 25-12, 25-20) on Thursday evening in the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of HVCC.

As a team, the Vikings combined for 29 kills, six service aces, 22 assists and a season-high 96 digs over the course of the three-set match. Abby Newell had a great all-around match as she finished with a team-high 23 digs and added five kills and a team-best three service aces.

Regina Ware-Salazar continued her tremendous play as the primary setter. She accumulated 18 total assists with six kills on 14 attempts. Abby Taylor also had a big game for the Vikings as she led the team with three solo blocks and added an assisted block with Ware-Salazar. Taylor attacked the net 18 times and finished with a team-high nine kills and six digs.

Sidney Phillips had a team-high 32 attack attempts with eight kills, six digs and once service ace.

Defensively, the Vikings had four individuals finish with at least 16 digs and were led by Newell's 23 digs. Adriana Diaz Rolon accumulated 20 digs and did not have a receiving error in 17 attempts, the most on the team. Elizabeth Baldes tallied 19 digs and Cameron Gardner added 16 digs.

Up next for the volleyball program is a critical Region 3 pod match up with SUNY Adirondack and Onondaga as all three teams are jockeying for a top-8 playoff seed in the Region 3 Championship tournament. The pod will be hosted by Adirondack and the first match is set to begin at 11 a.m. in Queensbury, NY.
