Volleyball Sweeps Pod; Wins 5th Straight Match

The Hudson Valley Community College women's volleyball program are hitting their stride as they have extended their season-high win streak to five straight matches after they defeated Mohawk Valley and Herkimer in straight sets at the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of HVCC.

GAME ONE: HUDSON VALLEY 3, MOHAWK VALLEY 0 (25-19, 25-9, 25-9)

As a team, the Vikings accumulated 33 kills, 20 service aces, 43 digs and 18 assists as they defeated Mohawk Valley in straight sets to kick off the pod day.

The offense was clicking as they combined to hit .339 and were led by Cameron Gardner, who finished with a game-high 12 kills and added eight digs and a pair of service aces. Abby Taylor and Regina Ware-Salazar each tallied six kills and Ware-Salazar managed the offense with 13 assists and added five service aces.

Elizabeth Baldes had a great service day with a team-best six aces and she added four assists and seven digs. Adriana Diaz Rolon also played well on the defensive side. Adriana finished with a team-high 11 digs and added four service aces.

GAME TWO: HUDSON VALLEY 3, HERKIMER 0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-13)

In the final game of the day, the Vikings completed the sweep and won their fifth straight match as they defeated Herkimer in straight sets.

Hudson Valley accumulated 26 kills, 20 assists, 12 service aces and 62 digs as they Vikings put together a complete game in the straight set win. Sidney Phillips hit .304 with 11 kills on 23 attack attempts for a team-high 13 points. Ware-Salazar continued to guide the offense with a team-best 18 assists and she added three service aces. 

Adriana Diaz Rolon collected nearly one-third of the team's digs as she finished the match with 23 total digs. She also had one kill and one service ace. Abby Taylor continued to play well as she finished with a .667 hitting percentage with six kills on nine attempts.

The Vikings travel to Queensbury, NY for a critical Mountain Valley Conference match against a quality Adirondack program. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
