Volleyball Competed at Adirondack Pod

The Hudson Valley Community College women's volleyball team competed in the SUNY Adirondack Region 3 pod, hosted by the Timberwolves in Queensbury, NY. The Vikings faced tough Region 3 opponents in Fulton-Montgomery and Jefferson.

GAME ONE: Fulton-Montgomery 3, Hudson Valley 0 (25-12, 25-10, 25-18)

In the opening game of the day, the Vikings went up against one of the best programs in the Region, Fulton-Montgomery. The Vikings had a tough draw, but still fought hard as they accumulated 16 kills, 6 service aces 36 digs over the course of the three-set match.

Adriana Diaz Rolon finished the match with a team-best 13 dits and added two kills. Offensively, Abby Newell and Sidney Phillips hit the ball hard as they both tallied four kills each and Regina Salazar-Ware guided the team along the way with a team-best 12 assists.

GAME TWO: Jefferson 3, Hudson Valley 0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-17)

In the second match, the Vikings were defeated in straight sets by Jefferson in what was an evenly matched game with the Vikings narrowly dropping the first set 25-23. Hudson Valley hung tough in the second and ultimately were defeated in the final set by the Cannoneers.

As a team, the Vikings finished with a combined 19 kills, with Newell leading the charge with a team-best 11 kills in the three sets. Salazar-Ware added 17 assists and added one kill and two digs. Diaz Rolon finished with a team-best 17 digs to lead the defensive effort of the Vikings and Abby Taylor defended well at the net, finishing with four solo blocks and two assisted blocks in the match.

The volleyball team is back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 19 when they host Fulton-Montgomery in a Mountain Valley Conference match in the McDonough Sports Complex at 6 p.m.
