The Hudson Valley Community College women's volleyball team had a strong performance in their home-opening match as they defeated Herkimer in straight sets, 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-20), on Tuesday evening at the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of HVCC.

Hudson Valley jumped out early behind some strong serves, with Tatianah Zeigler leading the charge with six service aces over the three sets. In the final set, with the Vikings trailing, Sidney Phillips took control of the game and handled service for seven consecutive points, which forced a Herkimer timeout. Phillips finished with a team-high seven service aces and continued serve as the Vikings pulled away, eventually securing the three-set win. As a team, the Vikings accumulated 15 service aces, a season-high 74 digs and 19 kills.

Adriana Diaz-Rolon finished with a game-best 20 digs to lead the Vikings defense and added one service ace in eight attempts. Isabella and Abby Newell each finished with a team-high five kills with Zeigler and newcomer, Abby Taylor added three kills each. Regina Salazar-Ware was stellar as a setter as she accumulated 12 assists over the course of the match.

The volleyball team is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 16 when they travel to compete in the SUNY Adirondack pod and will play Fulton-Montgomery at 9 a.m. and Jefferson at 11 a.m. in Quuensbury, NY.
