Volleyball Drops Three Matches at Home Pod

The Hudson Valley women's volleyball program hosted its annual NJCAA Region 3 pod tournament on Saturday in the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College. 

Finger Lakes – 3, Hudson Valley 1 

The Vikings combined for 26 kills, 20 assists, four service aces and 23 digs in their four-set loss to Finger Lakes. 

Leading the way for Hudson Valley's offense was Andraya Warner-Davis and Jackie McCormick, who combined for 14 total kills. McCormick recorded eight kills and added six digs in the opening match. Warner-Davis finished with six kills, one service ace and four digs. 

Victoria Kendrick handled the setter duties for the match and finished with 14 assists. Leureah Cummings also assisted on six kills and added four kills on the offensive end. 

Genesee 3, Hudson Valley 2

Hudson Valley faltered late as they dropped three straight matches after winning the first two against a tough Genesee opponent. 

As a team, the Vikings combined for 28 kills, 27 assists, eight service aces and a season-high 90 digs. Madison DeMarco with a team high nine kills and added a career-best 18 digs in the five-set match. Warner-Davis tallied a career-best with 21 digs and added five kills and two service aces against the Cougars. 

Laura Grippin led the Vikings defense with her own career-high and team-best 31 digs in her second match of the day. 

Monroe 3, Hudson Valley 0

Hudson Valley nearly pulled off a set win in the first set but Monroe ultimately took the set 25-23 and went on to sweep the Vikings in their final match of the day.

As a team, the Vikings tallied six kills, four service aces, six assists and 43 digs. Grippin and DeMarco recorded 13 and 10 digs, respectively and Cummings earned all six of Hudson Valley's assists. 

Upcoming Schedule

The Vikings are traveling to face North Country on Friday night, Sept. 20 prior to the North Country pod on Saturday, Sept. 21. The pod tournament will feature matchups against Jamestown, Niagara and Erie.
