Volleyball has Tough Day at Home Pod

The Hudson Valley Community College women's volleyball team played well at their home pod against Jefferson and Onondaga on Saturday morning in the McDonough Sports Complex. 

Vikings (3-12) vs. Jefferson

The Vikings dropped their first match of the day to Jefferson in straight sets 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-17). Hudson Valley combinedfor 30 kills, 60 digs and 24 assists with 10service aces in the three-game match.

Kirstin Wood (Colonie/Colonie) led the Vikings attack with a team-high 12 kills on 26 attempts for a .462 hitting percentage. Wood also added 16 digs with two assists. Laura Grippin (Berne/Berne-Knox-Westerlo) and Madison DeMarco (Schenectady/Rotterdam) also recorded double-digit digs for Hudson Valley as Grippin finished with 14 digs and DeMarco tallied 10 digs. Shayla Pfendler (Ava/Adirondack)compiled a team-high 13 assists.

Vikings (3-12) vs. Onondaga

The Vikings were defeated by Tompkins Cortland in straight sets 3-0 (25-11, 25-22, 25-7). The Vikings combined for 15 kills, 10 assists and 41 digs in their final match of the day.

Leureah Cummings (Voorheesville/Voorheesville) led the Vikings attack with four kills on 10 attempts for a .400 hitting percentage. Pfendler accounted for seven of the Vikings 10 assists and Grippin and Wood combined for 32 of the team's 43 digs. 

Volleyball is back in action on Wednesday, October 3 when they welcome Fulton-Montgomery to the McDonough Sports Complex at 6 p.m.
