Volleyball Closes Out 2017 Pod Play

The Hudson Valley Community College women's volleyball team closed out the 2017 pod season on Saturday afternoon at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid.

Vikings (7-12) vs. Fulton-Montgomery

The Vikings dropped their first match of the day to Fulton-Montgomery in a tough five set match 3-2 (11-25, 25-23, 27-25, 11-25, 14-16). Hudson Valley combined for 36 kills, 25 assists, 11 service aces, seven blocks and 77 digs. Danielle Pardo (Averill Park/Averill Park) recorded a double-double with a team-high 25 assists to go with her 12 digs in five sets. Jessica Getty (Hartford/Hartford) finished with a .333 hitting percentage with nine kills on 21 attempts.

Alayna Fredenburg (Rotterdam/Schalmont) tallied 16 kills on 50 attempts, hitting .200 in her five sets. Fredenburg also added two service aces and a pair of solo blocks. Megan Woods (Averill Park/Averill Park) continued to lead the Vikings in digs after recording 25 digs. Kirstin Wood (Colonie/Colonie) and Olivia Fischer (Averill Park/Averill Park) also had 15 digs a piece for the Vikings. 

Vikings (8-12) vs. Mohawk Valley

The Vikings defeated Mohawk Valley in straight sets 3-0 (25-13, 26-24, 25-18). Fredenburg guided the Vikings attack in the second match of the day with 14 kills on 26 attempts for a team-high .462 hitting percentage and 10 digs. Pardo surpassed 20 assists for the second straight game today as she finished with 23 digs, while Woods provided 11 digs for the Vikings.

Vikings (8-13) vs. Herkimer

After winning the first two sets, volleyball lost the final match of the day in five sets 3-2 (25-18, 25-21, 14-24, 14-25, 6-15).

The Vikings combined for 35 kills, 30 assists, five service aces, seven blocks and 84 digs. Three Vikings surpassed 10 digs with Woods earning 16 digs, Wood gathered 15 digs and Fredenburg added 14 digs. Pardo continued to rack up her assist numbers after collecting another 28 in the five set match.

Volleyball finished the day with a 1-2 record and will be back home on Monday, Oct. 16 when they welcome Ulster Community College at 7 p.m. The final home match of the 2017 season will be webcasted live on the Vikings Broadcast Network on the Hudson Valley athletics website.
