Volleyball Wins Two at Corning Pod

The Hudson Valley Community College women's volleyball had a successful day in the Corning Community College pod tournament, winning two of three matches on Saturday. 

Vikings (4-6) vs. Broome

The Vikings won the first match of the day after defeating Broome in five sets 3-2 (17-25, 25-23, 25-22, 16-25, 15-12). Hudson Valley combined for 28 kills, 28 assists and a season-high 96 digs. The Vikings defense had a season-best five individuals compile double-digit digs during the five-set match. Megan Woods (Averill Park/Averill Park) finished with a team-high 22 digs and Kirstin Wood (Colonie/Colonie) added 19 digs for the Vikings. Alayna Fredenburg (Rotterdam/Schalmont) finished with 14 digs and a team-high nine kills, while Olivia Fischer (Averill Park/Averill Park) and Danielle Pardo (Averill Park/Averill Park) each tallied 13 digs.

Vikings (4-7) vs. Corning

The Vikings went the distance in their second straight match but were unable to claim victory as they dropped their match to host Corning 3-2 (27-25, 19-25, 15-25, 25-17, 15-17). Hudson Valley finished with a combined 38 kills, 30 assists and 141 total digs, surpassing their season-high in digs they set in the previous match. Woods tallied an impressive 46 total digs during the five-set match, Fischer collected a 31 digs and Fredenburg added 23 digs to go with a team-high 12 kills for the Vikings. Pardo also reached double-digits with 10 kills and 16 digs.

Vikings (5-7) vs. Tompkins-Cortland

The Vikings closed out pod play with a straight set win after defeating Tompkins-Cortland 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-12). Hudson Valley combined for a total of 25 kills, led by Fredenburg's nine kills with a .533 hitting percentage. Woods continued to lead the Vikings defensively as she finished with a team-best 17 digs. Fischer and Fredenburg also finished with double-digit digs with 10 digs and 14 digs, respectively.

Volleyball is on the road for a conference match with Herkimer on Wednesday, Sept. 27 with a 6 p.m. scheduled start.
