Marcil leads Women's Track & Field at Swanson Invitational

The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's track and field program battled through the elements and competed at the Elmer Swanson Invitational hosted by Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn. On Saturday afternoon.

The women's program had six, top-10 finishes on the day as the Vikings competed against several four-year institutions in their first outdoor meet of the season.

Leading the way for the Vikings in the sprint events were Dava Marcil and Olivia Skylstad, who both earned a top-10 finish in their respective events. Marcil placed fourth overall, the highest finish for the Vikings, in the women's 100-meter hurdles event. She finished with a final time of 19.91 seconds. Skylstad placed seventh in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1.20.90.

In the throwing events, the Vikings were led by Jessica Slingerland, who placed fifth overall in the women's javelin event. She recorded two official throws and finished with a mark of 30.07-meters (98' 8"). Siri Sorenson led the way for HVCC in the women's shot put event as she placed 10th overall with a final throw of 9.90-meters (32' 5.75"), which she accomplished on her second throw of the day.

Abigale Dunlavey had a day in the jumping events as she earned two, top-10 finishes in the triple jump and the long jump events. Dunlavey placed eighth overall in the triple jump with a final mark of 8.49-meters (27' 10.25"). She followed it up with a 10th place finish in the women's long jump with an official jump time of 4.07-meters (13' 4.25").

The women's track and field program returns to action on Saturday, April 6 when they travel to compete in the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitation hosted by Fitchburg State University in Fitchburg, Mass.
