Track and Field Performs Well at Yellowjackets Invitational

The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's track and field programs competed in the Yellowjacket Invitational hosted by American International College in Springfield, Mass.

Charles Benichoux, last year's NJCAA National Champion in the men's 100m event, has continued to show good form as he once again one the men's 100m event at the Yellowjacket Invitational. Benichoux crossed the finish line with an official time of 10.96 seconds.

Xavier Hughes ran well in the men's 400m event as he posted a top-15 time, placing 13th overall and posted an official score of 58.05 seconds.

In the men's 110m hurdles, two-sport athlete, Demetrius Williams finished fifth overall with a NJCAA qualifying time of 16.68 seconds, building upon his success last week at the Wesleyan Swanson Invitational. Williams followed up his 110m hurdles success with a third-place finish in the men's 400m hurdles event. Williams ran the even in 1:00.72 and qualified for the NJCAA Championships.

In the field events, Brooks Robson finished fifth overall in the men's long jump event as he posted an official distance of 6.14m, which he reached on his third jump of the day. Jonathan Hanna finished seventh overall in the men's long jump with a distance of 6.02m and Daniel Honsinger finished 10th overall with a distance of 5.79m.

In the men's shot put, Guerin Dupuis hit a qualifying mark with a distance of 11.86m, which placed him 13th overall and Aiden Alaxanian placed 19th overall with a distance of 9.83m. Robert Fitzgerald also qualified for nationals in the hammer throw after he placed 15th overall with a distance of 36.50m. Jalen Graham hit a qualifying mark with a 13th place finish in the men's discus with a distance of 36.78m.

For the women's program, Nisa Osman-Mergani and Ocean Meda competed in the women's 100m dash with Meda placing 19th overall with a time of 14.04 seconds and Nisa placed 21st overall with a time of 14.34 seconds. Meda also placed 23rd overall in the women's 200m event with a time of 28.83 seconds.

In the field events, Alyssa Bruno qualified for nationals in the women's high jump event. She plaved fourth overall and posted a final distance of 1.45m. Isabella Guyer competed in the shot put and the discus throw. In the shot put, Guyer placed 16th overall with a final distance of 6.92m and in the discus, she finished with a final throw of 19.84m.

The men's and women's track and field programs are back in action next Saturday, April 8 as they travel to compete in the Fitchburg State Invitational in Fitchburg, Mass.
