Track and Field Performs Well at SUNY Cortland

The men's and women's track and field program was back in action on Saturday morning as they traveled to compete in the Cortland Upstate Alternative meet hosted by SUNY Cortland at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex

Highlighting the Vikings top-finishers in the meet was the dominant performance of Charles Benichoux, who won the event's 100m and 200m races for the fourth week in a row. He posted a 100m time of 10.94, defeating top NCAA Division 3 sprinters. Benichoux's winning 200m time was 22.34. 

Unique Henderson performed well in the men's 400m as he placed second, behind Syracuse's Alexander Segarra, with a final time of 53.53. Henderson also placed second in the men's 200m, placing behind teammate Benichoux with a time of 23.88. 

On the men's throwing events, Martin Bond won the Javelin Throw with an official time of 39.27m. Bond also placed eighth in the men's Hammer Throw event with a distance of 40.52m.

On the women's side, Lia Soares earned a quality top-5 finish in the women's 100m event. She placed fourth with a final time of 13.56, 0.3 seconds behind the winner, Hayley Castagnier from St. Lawrence. Soares also placed fifth in the women's 200m with a time of 28.44. Lia also participated in the women's long jump event, placing eighth with a distance of 4.50m. 

Olivia Skylstad finished the meet with a couple top-10 finishes. She placed 10th in the women's 800m with a final time of 2:42.30. She also posed a time of 5:34.90 in the women's 1,500m event, placing 11th, just outside the top-10.
