SUNY Cortland held their annual Cortland Classic this past weekend with over 20-teams participating, including teams from the SUNYAC, Empire 8, Liberty League and NJCAA Conferences.  Many Vikings took this opportunity to better their season performances with the goal to improve their individual seeding at the Region 3 and the NJCAA Championships in the upcoming weeks.

In their first attempt of the season at the 10,000m race, teammates Holden Maynard (Rotterdam/Mohonasen) and Ryan Moon (Colonie/Colonie) finished with times of 37:07.53 and 37:24.78 respectively. Their time in the 10K race also earned the pair a chance to compete in the National Championships.

Elijah Washington (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) had already qualified for nationals in the hammer throw, but on Saturday, Washington through a new seasonal best of 12.66m in the shot put. Washington will join teammate Devin Kipp (Hudson/Hudson) at nationals for the shot put event.

Alexis Holmes (Albany/Guilderland) and fellow shot putter Jasmine Minick-Seldon (Stillwater/Stillwater) were limited to one event because the meet was called due to darkness and was unable to finish their remaining schedule. The duo made the most of the opportunity as Holmes had a new personal best of 9.18m and Minick-Seldon had a new season best of 7.93m.

The lone top finisher in the highly competitive meet belonged to Jamison Jarosz (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley) in the high jump. Jarosz finished with a mark of 1.82m.

The Vikings will be traveling east this upcoming weekend to the Invitational at Central Connecticut. This will be the last tune-up meet before the Region 3 Championship on May 4-5 and the National Championship May 10-12.
