Women's Tennis Defeated in Straight Sets in 2019 Opener

Hudson Valley Community College women's tennis (0-1) matched up against Broome on Sunday, Sept. 15 for their 2019 season opener on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College. The Vikings dropped the match 6-0 to a tough NJCAA Region 3 Broome program. 

Hudson Valley's No. 2 singles seed Ally Hammond played Broome's Colleen Somset tough but ultimately dropped the match in straight sets 4-6, 1-6. 

The Vikings top-seed Miranda Morrison played well in the season opener in her first career match as the top-ranked singles position at Hudson Valley. Morrison fell in straight sets to Briana Harmon 0-6, 0-6. Harmon won the NJCAA Region 3 championship at the No. 2 singles position a season ago. 

Rounding out the Vikings singles matches, Christina Cammarata was defeated 1-6, 0-6 by Broome's Anika Mott and Ngoc Nguyen lost 0-6, 0-6 to Rose Kane. 

In doubles action, the Vikings top ranked duo of Morrison and Hammond lost a tough set 8-7 and Cammarata and Nguyen fell 8-1.

The women's tennis program returns to the courts on Thursday, Sept. 19 when they travel to take on Herkimer beginning at 4 p.m.
