Bornt takes Region 3 tennis title
Hudson Valley CC sophomore defeats Onondaga CC player

Sophomore Jacqueline Bornt came up with a big effort representing the Hudson Valley women's tennis team. She captured the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 3 title in first singles last weekend in Syracuse.

Bornt, from Wynantskill (Averill Park High), defeated Micah Mixon of Onondaga CC 6-1, 6-0 in the final Sunday to claim the title. Bornt turned back Autumn Fallon of Mohawk CC 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals on Saturday. She was 8-0 for the 4-3-1 Vikings during the regular season.

Craw, Planavsky lead way

Hudson Valley had outstanding performances in both men's and women's cross country at the James Earley Invitational last Saturday in Westfield, Mass. Freshman Jared Craw of Colonie (Colonie High) finished 31st out of 210 runners in the 8,000-meter men's White Division race with a time of 27 minutes, 18 seconds, the field made up of mostly Division II and III athletes. Sophomore Holden Maynard of Rotterdam (Mohonasen High) was 63rd with a time of 28:21. In the women's 5,000-meter White Division race, sophomore Mercedes Planavsky of Ballston Spa (Ballston Spa High) finished 38th out of 214 with a time of 19:58 for the Vikings.
