Women's Tennis Falls 5-4 to Mohawk Valley

The Hudson Valley Community College women's tennis team (2-5) dropped a tough 5-4 decision to Mohawk Valley on Sunday afternoon in its final regular season match of the season.

The Vikings won a pair of singles matches and a pair of doubles matches to account for their four match wins this afternoon. No.2 Madeline Gibbons (Averill Park/Averill Park) defeated Sarah Pham in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 and No.3 Sarah Sampson (Albany/Albany) defeated Mohawk Valley's Taylor Scalzo 6-0, 6-2.

The Vikings No.1 pairs team of Laura Ciotoli (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville) and Gibbons won their match 8-4 over the Hawks Ella Brutsky and Pham. Hudson Valley's fourth point was attributed to the 8-6 win by the No.3 doubles team of Saphire Ahlers (Rotterdam Junction/Schalmont) and Natalie Mercedes (Rensselaer/Rensselaer).

The women's tennis program looks to participate in the NJCAA Regionals round with the match-ups expected to be released later this week with Regionals scheduled for Oct. 7-8.
