Women's Tennis Wins Second Straight Match 7-1

The Hudson Valley Community College women's tennis team (2-4) won its second straight match against Herkimer 7-1 on Monday afternoon.

No.1 Laura Ciotoli (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville) won her match in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 in her rematch with Herkimer's Chiharu Kainuma. No.2 Madeline Gibbons (Averill Park/Averill Park) defeated Carol Price 6-4, 6-2 and No.3 Sarah Sampson (Albany/Albany) defeated Herkimer's Katerina Netti 6-1, 6-0.

No.4 Madison Bemis (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) and No.5 Saphire Ahlers (Rotterdam Junction/Schalmont) also won their singles match-ups in straight sets. Bemis won her match 6-3, 6-2 over Moo Taw Toh and Ahlers defeated MooMu Doh 6-0, 6-1.

For the second consecutive match, the double team of Ciotoli and Gibbons won their match at No.1 doubles over Herkimer's top doubles team of Kainuma and Toh.

Hudson Valley has one more tennis match remaining in the 2017 season with an opportunity to advance to the postseason with a win against Mohawk Valley on Sunday, Oct. 1. Mohawk Valley defeated the Vikings 7-2 on Sept. 10.
