Hudson Valley Community College women's tennis was defeated on Thursday evening at SUNY Delhi 7-2.

The Vikings claimed two match wins over Delhi behind the strong play of No.2 Madeline Gibbons (Averill Park/Averill Park) and No.3 Sarah Sampson (Albany/Albany. Gibbons won her second straight match to improve to 2-0 in singles play after defeating Safiyyah Muhammad 6-3, 1-6, 10-6. Sampson also improved to 2-0 in singles play this season after defeating Reika Kumasaki in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.

Laura Ciotoli (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville) dropped her match 6-1, 6-4 as the Vikings No. 1 singles player. Saphire Ahlers (Rotterdam Junction/Schalmont) was defeated by Antonia Delavera in straight sets 6-2, 6-0 and Natalie Mercedes (Rensselaer/Rensselaer) finished up at No.5 singles for the Vikings, dropping her match 6-1, 6-1.

The Vikings are back home this Saturday, Sept. 16 when they host Onondaga Community College at 1 p.m.
