The Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer team faced a quality Jefferson program and were defeated 4-1 during Wednesday's season-opener in Watertown, NY.
The Vikings jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead as Lauren Foglia (Watervliet / Shaker), last season's leading scorer, scored less than two minutes into the start of the game. Foglia won the ball off the opposing Jefferson midfielder and was able to push the attack inside and bent a low shot in the far corner for the goal.
Nearly two minutes later, Jefferson's Sam Stokely responded to tie the game up at 1-1 at the 41:15 mark. Stokely scored again at the 31:23 mark and the Cannoneers took a 2-1 advantage into the halftime break.
Following the halftime break, Jefferson's Stokely continued a career day as she scored two more times in the second half to pull away and secure the 4-1 win over the Vikings.
The women's soccer program returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 1 as they host Onondaga at 1 p.m. at the Outdoor Athletic Complex on the campus of HVCC. The game will be streamed live at www.hvccathletics.com/WATCH.
