The Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer program rebounded nicely following a tough defeat on the road against Genesee as they won handily 8-3 at Niagara on Sunday afternoon in Sanborn, NY.
The Vikings did fall behind early as the Thunder Wolves scored first at the 26:53 mark in the first half. However, the Vikings recovered and scored the next three goals, including a pair from Maggie Ryan. Marilyn Decker scored on a corner kick from Ryan at the 16:23 mark. Ryan scored at 10:37 following a roll-on down the outside line. Minutes later, Ryan attacked the net again for her second goal of the game at the 8:05 mark.
Right before the halftime break, Niagara put another goal through the net and Hudson Valley entered the break leading 3-2.
In the second half, the Vikings continued the offensive barrage on Niagara. Led by Ryan and Savannah Scarpa-Meade, the Vikings scored four straight goals to push ahead of Niagara 7-2. Decker also scored her second goal of the game at the 20:18 mark in the second half. Ryan later added her fourth goal of the game at the 2:50 mark on an assist from Riley West.
The Vikings will return home on Thursday, Sept. 15 when they take on Albany College of Pharmacy at 7 p.m. at the Outdoor Athletic Complex at Hudson Valley Community College. The game will be live streamed at hvccathletics.com/WATCH.
