Women's Soccer Remains Unbeaten after Jamestown Win

Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer (4-0) added to their winning streak as they defeated Jamestown 9-0, marking the second straight season the women's soccer team started off with a 4-0 record. 

The Vikings dominated throughout the game, gaining their first goal 10:53 minutes into their first half. Morgan Catlin connected a pass to Caitlin Houghtonwho took a touch a shot the ball into the back of the net. 

Grace Cusack gained the second goal of the game after receiving a pass up the field from Taya Catlin and dribbled her way to the goal. Cusack slotted the ball to the lower right corner of the net at the 14:40 minute mark. Katie Hudspath combined with Brooke Clough a minute later to score the third goal of the game. Clough passed to Hudspath, who took a touch around a defender and shot the ball into the upper right of the goal.

Ten minutes later, Juliette Baker took the ball up the right side of the goal 24:35 minutes into the first half and slotted a ball through to the middle of the goal. Rebecca Fankhanel found the end of the pass and one-touched it into the lower right of the net past Jamestown's keeper.

Sydney Gile scored the last goal of the first half after she took a rebound off of Cassie Patrick's shot 37:06 minutes in the opening half.

The Vikings started the second half strong as they scored again less than five minutes into the half Nicki Filkins found herself at the end of a lofted ball from Fankhanel and managed to put the ball in the goal.

Kaitlin McGuiness followed shortly after when Grace Doyle passed a ball up through the middle. McGuiness beat a Jamestown defender and ran the ball to the goal taking a shot which found the back of the net at the 6:34 minute mark. Two minutes later, Fankhanel followed with a header into the goal after Natalie Tidings sent a cross pass up into the air.

Tidings assisted the final goal of the game at the 18:29 minute mark. Tidings took the ball up the left side of the field and passed to Jalaina Groncki, who guided the ball into the top right corner of the net. 

The Vikings shutout Jamestown Community College, leaving Bailey Dunn with a clean slate and a 9-0 victory. Dunn now has 10 career shutout victories during her time at Hudson Valley. 

The women's soccer program will continue their road status this week as they take on a competitive Mohawk Valley team on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 4 p.m.
