Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer (6-1-1) went on the road and played No.4 Herkimer to a 2-2 tie with the Generals gaining the overall penalty kick advantage 3-2.

Herkimer jumped out to an early 1-0 when Kristen Purcell connected on a pass from Sarah George at the 10:35 mark. The Vikings found back to tie the game at 1-1 with close to 10 minutes remaining in the first half.

Cassie Patrick (Schuylerville/Schuylerville) scored off a powerful shot outside of the 18-yard box that skipped by the keeper and into the back of the net. Hudson Valley took the 2-1 lead when the Vikings leading scorer, Sydnee Metzold (Rotterdam/Schalmont) gathered a pass from Kristen Bikowicz (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) to score on a shot over the goalkeeper's head at the 42:45 mark.

Herkimer scored again to force overtime as Purcell recorded her second goal of the game. Following the overtime period, the Vikings and Generals faced off in a penalty kick showdown in which Herkimer took the 3-2 advantage.

The penalty kick advantage gives the Generals the tiebreaker over the Vikings when it comes time for to seed teams for the Region 3 postseason.

The schedule doesn't get any easier for the women's soccer team as they travel to play one of the better teams in the country at Erie. The Vikings defeated Erie last season 2-1 when the Katz were the number one team in the country. This Saturday's match is scheduled for 2 p.m.
