Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer (4-0) had to overcome an hour delay due to thunderstorms to defeat Holyoke 4-1 on the road Thursday evening.

Hudson Valley jumped out to an early start for the fourth straight game by scoring within the first 10 minutes of each game. Jessica Clifford (Rotterdam/Schalmont) gave the Vikings the 1-0 advantage with 42:03 remaining in the first half. She was on the receiving end of a pass by Kristen Bikowicz (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) at the top of the box, which Clifford collected and sent to the back of the net for the goal.

The Vikings entered the break tied at 1-1 after Holyoke rebounded a shot off the post for the score.

Sophomore Sydnee Metzold (Rotterdam/Schalmont) extended her multi-goal streak to three straight games as she finished with two goals. Metzold's first goal came in the second half at the 14:45 mark when she sent a pass from Bikowicz to the bottom right corner of the net. She would later score again with 43-seconds remaining in the game from a deflected pass by Kaitlin Nadeau (Latham/Shaker) for the Vikings final goal of the game.

Payton Czupil (Latham/Shaker) scored the Vikings third goal at the 11:05 mark when she took a shot from 25-yards away, hitting the back of the net, just out of the reach of Holyoke's keeper.

Bailey Dunn (Saugerties/Saugerties) had another light night and finished the game with one save as the Vikings continued to play excellent defense, keeping Holyoke out of the offensive zone for most of the game

The women's soccer team return home for their 2018 home opener on Saturday, September 8 when they welcome Clinton for a 3 p.m. match.
