Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer (2-0) continued its strong start to the 2018 season with a 9-0 victory over Tompkins Cortland in the final day of the East Coast Cup in Dryden, N.Y. The Vikings were led offensively by Sydnee Metzold's (Rotterdam/Schalmont) three goal performance.

For the second consecutive day, the Vikings jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first half behind a pair of goals from Metzold. Her first goal was a one touch pass through the middle of the field from Madison Pinzer (Wynantskill/Troy). Metzold placed the ball in the bottom right corner for the goal with 37 minutes remaining in the opening half.

Hudson Valley scored again at the 25-minute mark when Cassie Patrick (Schuylerville/Schuylerville) sent a shot towards the goal, deflecting off a Tompkins Cortland player and into the middle of the net for the score. Metzold followed up the Vikings attack with her second goal of the game at the 15-minute mark when she received a cross from Kaitlin Nadeau (Latham/Shaker) and finished with a shot in the bottom left corner, extending the lead to 3-0.

In the second half, the Vikings offense scored early and often as they exploded for six goals in the half. Pinzer scored the Vikings fourth goal of the game on an assist from Metzold. Metzold completed the hat trick with Hudson Valley's fifth goal as she connected on an assist from Nadeau to the top right corner of the net for the score.

Jessica Clifford (Rotterdam/Schalmont) scored her first collegiate goal at the 21-minute mark of the second half when she outran the Panthers defense on a run down the middle of the field and beat the goalkeeper for the score. Kerri VanAusdle (Athens/Coxsackie-Athens) scored on a pass from Kristen Bikowicz (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) at the 19-minute mark to bring the Vikings lead to 7-0.

Nadeau joined the scoring barrage after gathering a pass from Payton Czupil (Latham/Shaker) with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game. A few minutes later, Czupil also found the back of the net for the Vikings final goal of the game.

Hudson Valley's goalkeeper, Bailey Dunn (Saugerties/Saugerties) had another great game in goal as she recorded the shutout win and tallied three saves.

The women's soccer team is off this week and will return to the pitch on Tuesday, September 4 as they travel to play Dutchess Community College at 7 p.m.
