The No.5 Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer team's (12-4) earned its eighth consecutive win after defeating No.4 Corning Community College 2-1 in the NJCAA Region III semifinal round on Thursday afternoon.

Corning broke open the scoreless match with 26:38 remaining in the first half on a rebound after the Vikings keeper, Kaitlin Nadeau (Latham/Shaker) made the initial save. The rebound inched away from Nadeau and Corning recovered and scored for the 1-0 advantage.

In the second half, the Vikings increased its defensive pressure on Corning and was able to tie the game at 1-1. Madison Pinzer (Wynantskill/Troy) pushed the ball up to Bethany Pochobradsky (Rotterdam/Mohonasen), who was just inside the box. Pochobradsky took the shot and sent it to the bottom left corner, just out of the reach of the Corning goalkeeper.

Pochobradsky later found herself back in front of the net again as she controlled a forwarding pass from Volante Penzabene (Valatie/Ichadob Crane). As she controlled the ball, Pochobradsky sent a shot back to the lower left corner of the net for her second score of the day and gave the Vikings the 2-1 lead.

Nadeau played all 90 minutes in net for the Vikings and recorded nine saves in the win.

The Vikings advance to face No.1 Herkimer College in the NJCAA Region III Division III championship on Sunday, Oct. 29 with the scheduled game time still be to announced by the tournament committee.
