The Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer team (8-4) extended its win streak to four games after defeating SUNY Broome 4-0 on Wednesday evening at Hudson Valley's Outdoor Athletic Complex.

Despite the Vikings out-shooting the Hornets in the first half, the two teams fought their way to a scoreless first half and both teams went into the break searching for ways to breakdown their opponents in the second half.

The Vikings were successful in solving the Hornets defensive schemes as they exploded for four goals in the second half and secured their season-high four-game win streak. Sophomore Sydney Buhrke (Coxsackie/Coxsackie-Athens) continued her scoring dominance as she broke the scoreless tie on a chip shot over the keeper's head for her sixth goal of the season and her fourth goal in the last two games.

Ten minutes later, Sydnee Metzold (Rotterdam/Schalmont) was able to squeeze by defenders to the right side of the net and sent a shot from point-blank distance to the far left corner for the goal. Metzold also had a hand in setting up Kerri VanAusdle (Athens/Coxsackie-Athens) for the Vikings' third goal of the game as VanAusdle fought through the defense and put the ball in the left side of the net to give the Vikings a 3-0 lead.

The Vikings were on the attack again late in the second half and were awarded a corner kick in which Buhrke sent to the middle of the box and Metzold connected with a header into the right side of the net for her second goal of the game.

Buhrke and Metzold are on a tear as the duo have combined for 32 points during the last five games. Metzold has scored at least one goal in each of the last five games for Hudson Valley, including back-to-back multi-goal games and Buhrke has recorded five goals and five assists during the same five-game span for the Vikings.

Tonight's win was special for the Vikings and head coach Jay Pokines. Prior to tonight's win, Pokines has never defeated SUNY Broome during his 13 years of coaching at Hudson Valley.

Coach Pokines and the Vikings will attempt to extend their winning-streak this Saturday, Oct. 14 when they travel to take on Onondaga at 1 p.m.
