The Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer team (5-4) ended its two match losing skid on Friday afternoon, defeating Jamestown 3-1.

The Vikings dominated time of possession in the first half, outshooting the Jayhawks but only managed one goal in the first 87 minutes of the game. Jamestown scored first on a beautiful corner kick that curved right into the goal while still in the air for the 1-0 lead.

Hudson Valley evened the score at 1-1 midway through the second half when Sydney Buhrke (Coxsackie/Coxsackie-Athens) scored from the left side, as she sent a shot from outside the box to the top right hand side of the goal. Buhrke's goal was assisted by Bethany Pochobradsky (Rotterdam/Mohonasen) with 24:19 remaining.

Jamestown remained strong against a barrage of shots as the Vikings accumulated 15 shots on goal on 27 shot attempts. The score remained 1-1 with less than three minutes remaining and whispers of overtime began to emerge from the fans, but the Vikings prevailed, scoring two goals in less than two minutes to secure its fifth win of the season.

The game-winning goal was scored by Paige Bailey (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville) as she made solid contact on a pass from Volante Penzabene (Valatie/Ichabod Crane), which she poked through the last line of the Jayhawks defense to find Bailey open for the goal.

The Vikings put the game away as the offense was on the attack again with less than two minutes remaining. The Jayhawks defense initially stopped a Vikings cross but was unable to control possession as Sydnee Metzold (Rotterdam/Schalmont) snagged the ball and sent it into the left side of the goal and the Vikings went ahead 3-1 with 0:51 seconds remaining.

Women's soccer is on the road this Sunday, Oct. 1 when they travel north to face Clinton Community College for a scheduled 1 p.m. start.
