The Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer team (4-4) was defeated 5-2 by No.3 Herkimer on Wednesday afternoon in Troy, NY.

Herkimer jumped out to an early 1-0 lead within the first five minutes on a goal by Sarah George which was assisted by Mikayla Blumenstock. The Vikings fought back to tie the game at 1-1 when Sydney Buhrke (Coxsackie/Coxsackie-Athens) sent a cross from the left hand side to find Sydnee Metzold (Rotterdam/Schalmont) open for the goal.

Herkimer scored three more times in the first half to extend their lead 4-1 at the break. The score remained 4-1 for the majority of the second half until Buhrke sent a pass just outside of the box to Susannah Frisch (Cambridge/Cambridge). Frisch converted the pass for the Vikings second goal as she sent the ball to the lower right hand side of the goal, just out of the reach of the Herkimer keeper. The Generals scored again at the 84:35 mark to seal the 5-2 win.

The Vikings closed out the toughest part of their 2017 schedule, facing three nationally ranked programs in a row and finished with a 1-2 record during the stretch. Hudson Valley will be back home to face Jamestown on Sept. 29 at 2 p.m.
