The Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer team (4-3) could not overcome an early deficit to No.4 Genesee Community College on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Cougars 1-0 in Batavia, NY.

The Vikings were victims of the "wrong place at the wrong time" scenario as the Vikings tried to clear away a shot by Genesee early in the first half, but it was misdirected and the ball was sent in the opposite direction to where the Vikings goalkeeper was moving in an attempt to make a save and the ball landed in the back of the net to put the Cougars up 1-0.

Hudson Valley couldn't overcome the early misfortune as Genesee's defense prevented the Vikings from making any significant attacks on offense as they managed two shots on goal. Kaitlin Nadeau (Latham/Shaker) played the entire match in goal and the Vikings defense kept Genesee off the board for the remainder of the match, hoping for the opportunity to tie up the match.

The loss comes a day after the Vikings defeated Erie 2-1, the nation's top-ranked program. The schedule doesn't get any easier for Hudson Valley as they welcome No.2 Herkimer to Troy on Wednesday, Sept. 27 for a 4 p.m. scheduled start time.
