The Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer team (4-2) defeated top-ranked Erie Community College 2-1 at Erie's South Campus on Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings fell behind early as Erie's Abbey Lombard scored on a corner kick within the first 10 minutes of the game to give the Kats the 1-0 advantage. Erie held the 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
Hudson Valley came out of the half to tie up the back-and-forth match when Madison Pinzer (Wynantskill/Troy) sent a cross pass to the middle of the box as Kerri VanAusdle (Athens/Coxsackie-Athens) connected with a header and sent the ball to the back of the net, tying the Kats at 1-1.
With 12:16 remaining, Sydney Buhrke (Coxsackie/Coxsackie-Athens) sent a pass through the pack to find Susannah Frisch (Cambridge/Cambridge) one-on-one with with the Erie keeper. Frisch barely won the 50-50 ball over the keeper and as a result had a wide open look to send the ball into the empty net for the game-winning goal and secured the Vikings biggest win in program history.
Kaitlin Nadeau (Latham/Shaker) protected the Vikings goal for the entire 90-minutes and compiled 13 saves to earn her fourth win of the season.
The Vikings toughest road stretch of the 2017 schedule continues tomorrow with a match-up against No.4 Genesee Community College at 1 p.m. The women's soccer team will be back home to host No.2 Herkimer College.
